A little bit about me and my library…
I was born into a Ukrainian immigrant family. Being first generation made me live in two worlds: the one of the United States, with a fast and modern culture, and the one of my parents' homeland, which was European with Old World tradition.
Regardless of anyone's heritage, that is a tricky road to traverse.
I enjoy writing for generations that are younger than myself because they need good writing and are the future of this planet! But don’t get me wrong – my books are for ANYONE to enjoy…young, old or somewhere in the middle…
Wünderkind of Western New York combines my love of two things: the mystery novel and the decade of the 1980s, which was the time period in which I was a teenager. It includes cultural references that young readers will find interesting and older audiences will appreciate for its nostalgia.
The Land of En was based on little nicknames I would call my first dog, Alfred. He was a Pug and was named after Alfred Hitchcock, the filmmaker, by my niece, who was thirteen-years old at the time. My mother-in-law suggested I write a book based on Alfred's little names that I would create such as “Pookah Shell” and “Lambkin”. From that I created a little make-believe language. As with most creative endeavors, it just snowballed from that point.
I hope you enjoy reading these books as much as I enjoyed writing them!
This is why the Ukrainian flag is light blue and gold. Light blue symbolizes the sky and gold symbolizes the fields of wheat. After all, Ukraine was considered “the Bread Basket of Eastern Europe”!
